Tathagata Roy sworn-in as 16th Governor of Tripura
Tathagata Roy was sworn in as the 16th Governor of Tripura in Agartala. Chief Justice of the Tripura High Court Mr. Jc. Deepak Gupta administered the oath of office to him as per the provisions of Article 159 of Constitution of India. He replaced Padmanabh Balkrishna Acharya, Governor of Nagaland, who had held the additional charge of Tripura.

Hungarian writer Laszlo Krasznahorkai wins Man Booker International Prize 2015
Hungarian writer Laszlo Krasznahorkai has won the prestigious Man Booker International Prize for 2015. He was chosen from a list of 10 contenders from around the world. Laszlo Krasznahorkai was born in 1954 Gyula, Hungary. He had gained recognition in 1985 after he had published his debut novel Satantango, which he adapted for the big screen in 1994. Krasznahorkai’s other famous novels are The Melancholy of Resistance (1989), War and War (1999), Seiobo There Below (2008). Awards and Honours: In 1993, he was awarded Bestenliste-Prize of Germany for his novel The Melancholy of Resistance. In 2004, he was awarded with most prestigious cultural award in Hungary- The Kossuth Prize.

President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurates 50th anniversary of India’s first historic climb of Mt. Everest in 1965
President Pranab Mukherjee inaugurated the 50th Anniversary of India’s first historic climb of Mt. Everest in 1965 at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan. This function was organized by the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) to celebrate the historic climb of Mt. Everest in 1965 by an Indian team led by Captain Mohan Singh Kohli. On this day in 1965, Indian team of 21 mountaineers led by Captain M S Kohli of Indian Navy had successfully climbed world’s highest peak Mt. Everest (8848 m) after a series of three unsuccessful attempts in five years. The function was attended by nine surviving members of the 1965 expedition including Capt MS Kohli, Maj. H.P.S. Ahluwalia, Col Narinder Kumar, Sonam Wangyal, C P Vohra, G S Bhangu, Brigadier Mulk Raj, Dr Lala Telang and   Gurdial Singh.

SBI inks MoU with Amazon for payment, commerce solutions
India’s largest public sector lender, State Bank of India (SBI) has signed memorandum of understanding (MoU) with e-commerce giant Amazon. The MoU seeks to identify and tap the potential areas of collaboration for payments and commerce solutions between both signatory parties. Through this tie, SBI is seeking to enrich customers’ payment experience and opening up the windows of e-commerce to its small and medium enterprise (SME) customer’s base which is the largest in the country.While e-tailers like Amazon are set to gain even if a percentage of SBI’s SME customers after they adopt the online payment platform for their businesses.SBI is also looking to tap Amazon’s expertise and talent in order to connect potential buyers and sellers, along with efficient ways of sourcing raw materials for existing customers. SBI is also seeking to ink similar agreement with other e-commerce players such as Snapdeal and Paypal for similar payments and commerce solutions.

Astra missile successfully test-fired from Sukhoi-30 MKI in Odisha

Indigenously-developed beyond visual range air-to-air Astra missile was successfully test fired at the Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Odisha. In the test, the missile was fired from Sukhoi -30 MKI fighter jet in two developmental trials to prove its long range capability. In the first trial, the missile was released when the fighter jet was performing a very high-g manoeuvre and in the second trial it was fired when the manoeuvre was higher than in the first exercise. These tests were the part of seven developmental trials of the missile. After few more tests, including pre-induction trials the missile is expected to be inducted by 2016.
